John practiced as an architect for 10 years before becoming a lawyer in 1991.
During his practice as an architect, he designed and supervised various building types including commercial, industrial, recreational and residential developments.
He specialises in construction and engineering law pertaining to various sectors of the industry and his practice ranges from conducting legal actions and proceedings for contract and related disputes in building projects to multi-disciplinary advisory work involving energy, planning, engineering and infrastructure projects in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Africa. He has been involved in front-end contract/advisory work to back-end dispute resolution work involving litigation and arbitrations in Singapore and the region.
John sits as an arbitrator in numerous construction and engineering disputes and is on the panel of arbitrators of the Law Society's Arbitration Scheme and an accredited adjudicator under the Building and Construction Authority Security of Payment Act. He has been appointed by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) as arbitrator in several SIAC arbitrations.
He is also an adviser to the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) and is a member of its Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and the SIA Panel of Arbitrators.
John is named as one of the Leading Individuals in Construction Law in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 Directory for 2003.
