Our Litigation Practice Group has extensive expertise and experience in a broad spectrum of civil and commercial claims. Our clients receive personal attention at the partner level, and are assisted by a dedicated team of legal associates who are sensitive to the specific needs of our individual and business clients.

We have advised and acted for clients in various matters, including:

Admiralty and Shipping
Our head of the litigation department, Thio Ying Ying has accumulated extensive experience in representing ship owners and charterers in maritime cases involving maritime casualties, maritime personal injuries, cargo claims and maritime bankruptcy. We are also experienced in handling maritime liens and mortgages, charter parties and maritime contracts, and maritime insurance claims.

Arbitration, Mediation and Adjudication
We have a team of experienced and seasoned arbitrators who have engaged in domestic and international arbitrations. Notably, we were involved in arbitration proceedings in London over a manufacturing and trade mark licensing arrangement, and have acted for a leading Chinese tunnelling, infrastructure and engineering state enterprise in an arbitration against a Swedish multi-national transportation and infrastructure company. We also represented a large European multinational telecommunications company in enforcing a multi-million dollar foreign arbitration award in Singapore.

Our lawyers are attuned to the needs of our clients, and are committed to the amicable and hassle-free settlement of disputes, management of conflict or negotiation of contracts in the mediation process.

Our team has represented individual and institutional clients in connection with lender liability and related claims, as well as mortgages and hire-purchases. Our work also extends to customer fraud, employee embezzlement, letter of credit and financial guarantee bond matters.

Engineering and Construction
We advise and represent clients in all aspects of engineering and construction, ranging from disputes involving liability for building defects, delay and disruption claims and professional indemnity claims.  Our work covers building, energy, planning and infrastructure projects both in Singapore and abroad. Our Construction and Engineering group is led by John Chung, a specialist in the field of construction and engineering, having practiced as an architect for 10 years before becoming a lawyer. John sits on the panel of arbitrators of the Law Society's Arbitration Scheme and is an accredited adjudicator under the Building and Construction Authority Security of Payment Act.
